Nevada Holiday
Nevada is the seventh biggest state in the US and is located in the
Midwest of the country between California to the west and Utah to the
east. Its tourism history has long been connected to the popularity of
Gambling which originated in the city of Reno to the north but has since
become more synonymous with Las Vegas. However, aside from the adult
appeal of Gambling, Nevada has a lot to offer to the entire family - and
with many airlines currently offering cheap flights to Las Vegas, 2009
could be the best time to explore The Silver State.

Las Vegas
So if you do arrive in Las Vegas
with the family, you will be pleased to know that there is plenty to do
that does not involve casinos. The Bellagio offers its Cirque du Soleil,
an aquatic tapestry of artistry, surrealism and theatrical performance
(children must be over five) most week nights. For something during the
day why not visit M&M's World which includes a 3D cinema and
M&M's in every colour. For those interested in exotic animals,
Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat contains dolphins
and white tigers.
Skiing
Despite much of Nevada being hot
desert, the mountainous Reno and Lake Tahoe areas offer skiing
opportunities during the coldest months of the year. Mt. Rose is famed
for being open over the longest period (usually opening in September and
closing in May) and is located just 50 kilometres from Reno in the
Carson Range. The resort is known for being family friendly and offering
a diversity of slopes and terrain.
Theme Park
For theme
parks, Reno is also a top destination. Ultimate Rush Speed and Thrill
Park is home to a number of rides including the famous Skycoaster that
stretches 180 feet into the air and is said to give a similar feeling to
sky-diving and hang-gliding. Alternatively, Wild Island Family
Adventure Park located in nearby Sparks offers water slides log flumes
if you are eager to cool off and get wet.
Mount Charleston
If
you wish for a quieter recreational holiday, Nevada is not all extreme
sports and adrenaline. The state's abundant backcountry offers a variety
of slower paced activities ranging from horse riding in the Mount
Charleston Wilderness, to nature spotting in the Red Rock Canyon
National Conservation Area. The Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is
protected due to its unique flora and fauna, as well as its geological
attractions such as the many crystal springs.
